- Show up and do the work (book). This class typically includes students with extremely varied levels of technology skills, aptitude, and experience. Because of this diversity, the class is centered around a workbook which supports a self-paced approach. The goal is to not bore students who are able to learn quickly or to overwhelm those who find the course more challenging. It is imperative not to miss classes for 4 reasons.
- You will need help with many of the exercises.
- You probably don't have software such as Dreamweaver and Flash at home so you have to do most the work in the classroom.
- If you are really good at this you can help me to help your classmates.
- Typically, the only students who are disappointed with their grades are the ones with bad attendance records.
- Do the graded exercises on time and follow instructions. This class has at least five major graded assignments. I lay out my expectations as clearly as possible for each assignment. If you don't understand something about an assignment please ask.
- Take all of the quizzes. Yes, those same quizzes that you took weekly in 2020 are also required in this course and they are worth an entire letter grade. They are easy, it's good for you to learn more about technology, your grad will suffer if you ignore them. So why not do them?
- If you need help ask for it. I make a big effort to be available to students who need assistance and will work with you outside of class if you need me to.
- Help others if you can. Hands go up a lot in this class and sometimes I am stretched too thin to meet the demand for help. I really appreciate students who help out others. If you want to win my heart, help your classmates whenever you can.
- Remember that it's about more than the grade. You have an opportunity in this course to develop skills and a digital portfolio that can help you when you are looking for employment, not to mention impressing your friends and relatives. Concentrate more on getting real world value instead of worrying about your grade. If you show up and do what I ask you to, your grade will take care of itself.
- Enjoy yourself . Learning should be fun and this course is designed to be as engaging as possible. The exercises and assignments require effort but so does touch football, snow skiing, or any other activity. Have fun. I mean it.
