Due to the size of the blogosphere, any individual blog may be, and will be, passed over by almost all potential readers. Bloggers must ultimately become accustomed to obscurity and not allow a lack of followers to deter them from their dedicated course of changing the world one meaningless post at a time.
There is hope, however, as evidenced by the existence of influential bloggers, people who reached others using their blog as a soapbox. If one is compelled to be discovered, the best mean is to be linked on an already successful site. This includes inclusion on search engines, keeping in mind that the higher on search lists a blog appears, the more incoming visitors. If a blogger is to have any hope at attracting others to read their musings, they must first select whom they specifically will be directing their voice. Developing a target audience is a key component of acquiring a readership as this allows the blogger to pursue that designated group of readers. Identifying with the group is a crucial part of any type of writing, and blogging is no exception. Pay attention to what this audience finds relevant and interesting.
