The hardest part of writing a blog, apart from selecting a subject, is sticking to said subject. Nonetheless, bloggers should be compelled to stay on topic. Fight the urge to wander down tangents because readers will probably not follow.

A common misconception is that blogs have no accountability because of their anonymous authors. To stifle this misconception, bloggers must stay responsible for the content of their blog. Mistakes should be corrected and acknowledged. Regular updates are important, because readers can only read new material as often as this information is provided by the blogger. This will often dictate how closely a reader will follow a blog because of their perception of how dedicated the blogger is to staying current.

A blog allows the author to publish instantly, a feature unique to Web text. This feature can be embraced by the blogging community as it allows them to update almost as quickly as news occurs. A blog is not limited by time and space, and neither are bloggers.
