The New Media Institute
The New Media Institute (NMI) is an interdisciplinary academic unit dedicated to exploring the critical, commercial and creative dimensions of emerging technologies. The NMI is dedicated to the teaching and training of new media professionals and committed to providing non-technical students with technical skills and knowledge. The NMI brings faculty, staff, students and industry leaders of all disciplines together in an environment dedicated to exploring the applications of new media technologies. Curriculum focuses on critical investigations into the constantly changing media landscape, the development of skills to build commercial products and the creation of projects that use new media solutions to address real-world problems.
New Media Certificate
The New Media Institute houses the University of Georgia's largest certificate program. The New Media Certificate supplements any undergraduate or graduate degree and is a credential that demonstrates a student is technowledgable: the understanding of new media technologies and their application in a chosen field. Certificate students have access to hands-on classroom environments, innovative technologies and networking opportunities that lead to J-O-B-S.
Emerging Media Masters
The Emerging Media Masters concentration is designed for individuals who wish to understand how to strategically manage emerging media to further personal career goals and those of their employers. The degree is designed to accommodate students from a variety of different undergraduate backgrounds and professionals from a variety of industries.
SLAM is an end-of-semester showcase that celebrates student projects and certificate recipients. This celebration is an incredible opportunity for students to demonstrate how “technowledgeable” they have become during their certificate journey and to show off a semester of hard work. A host of industry guests and NMI alumni from near and far attend for a day of showcasing, networking, reminiscing, and interviewing job-seeking certificate students.
Every year, a carefully selected group of UGA faculty, staff, alumni, and students gather together at TEDxUGA to share their philosophies, art, inspiration, and ideas worth spreading. These ideas inspire curiosity attracting audience members from all over to connect and share in this collective experience. Every year this connectivity fosters an atmosphere of creativity and inspiration that can only be truly experienced first hand. With the help of campus and community partners, this annual event brings together UGA’s leading thinkers and doers to share their passions, stories, inspirations, and ideas.
The New Media Institute has always been dedicated to making things work, and with your support, we can make things work better.
